RE: Voranate, What is it ?

It is also known as MDI or diphenylmethane diisocyanate, or methylene bisphenyl isocyanate, used, among other isocyanates, to make polyurethanes resins by polyaddition. MDI, as a chemical, has a graphical structure as opera eyeglasses (the phenyl rings) each glass with its corresponding handle (the isocyanate groups).
The pure material's CAS No.: 101-68-8.

Polyurethanes are used as flexibe foams (about half) in furniture, car seats, packaging, mattresses; or rigid foams as in coatings, adhesives, thermal insulation, elastic fibers, and molding materials, etc.

For the drum's disposal procedure contact local authorities and a PUR making company such as Henkel Loctite Corp. Their emergency phone (from the internet) 860-571-51.

RE: Voranate, What is it ?

elvey, According to the UN number you posted, this material is Diphenylmethane-4,4-diisocynate. According to the Emergency Response Guide no.: 156, this substance is toxic and or corrosive. It is also combustible and water sensitive.

This is an EPA Hazardous material and must be disposed of according to all applicable regulations. Contact Heritage Environmental or any of the other reputable TSDF's.

BTW, pickup the latest copy of the Emergency Response Guidebook and look at guide no.: 156. This will give you the neccessary do's and don't when transporting this material or controlling spills and leaks. At the very minimum, get yourself an MSDS on this material PDQ. It will tell you the proper handling, PPE equipment required, and proper disposal method.

Hope this helps.
