Thin hydronic heated slab over existing slab on grade.

Thin hydronic heated slab over existing slab on grade.

(OP)
I am remodeling my daylight garage/ basement into a family area and am considering overlaying the existing slab with a thin concrete slab with hydronic heating.  If I choose this course, the overlay needs to be as thin as possible.  The existing SOG is in generally excellent condition with no serious cracks or visible moisture problems. If the overlying slab is to be finished and sealed as a wearing surface, how thin a slab is  prudent?  If I choose to cover the overlay with with ceramic tile can the thickness be reduced?

RE: Thin hydronic heated slab over existing slab on grade.

The website www.heatinghelp.com should help you out on this question.  I would think that yo would lose heat to the existing slab if it is not insulated.
