303SS and 360 Brass - Compatible Couple?

303SS and 360 Brass - Compatible Couple?

303SS and 360 Brass - Compatible Couple?

(OP)
I have a C36000 brass threaded plug that I would like to use in a 303SS component.  My galvanic table suggests this shouldn't be a problem.  Anyone out there with practical experience with this combo?  Should pipe tape be used here?

Thanks,

-Mike

RE: 303SS and 360 Brass - Compatible Couple?

The galvanic table doesn't take into account the relative surface areas of the assembly or the products that the components come in contact with, so corrosion is difficult to predict.  If you are sure 303 stainless is suitable for your application, be on the safe side and buy a stainless plug.  Effective sealing depends on the type of plug being used ie parallel or tapered thread.  It is normal to use a sealing type washer under the head of the parallel thread plug (these are available in stainless steel) or an inert thread teflon thread tape with a tapered plug.
