Conical spring

I understand how to design a compression spring and I have the equations. Could someone explain the procedure for designing a conical or tapered spring such as used in some modern engines to save space. Equations would be appreciated, or even a link.

Thanks,
John Woodward

RE: Conical spring

John, I have a technical article and equations for conical springs from a 1968 Machine Design. I see no copyright on the article and can fax it to you. If you want it send me a note at dave.mohler@saia-burgess-inc.com. I have written a computer program around it which seems to work fairly well.
Regards,
Dave
