Wankel port timing?

Wankel port timing?

Wankel port timing?

(OP)
Does anyone know what the typical port timings (inlet & exhaust) are for a Wankel rotary like the Mazda RX engine? I assume that with respect to top and bottem dead center, they are similar to a reciprocaters' poppet valve timings but slightly different to allow for the fact that ports normally open and close faster than poppets.  -  Jerry

RE: Wankel port timing?

There is a book about the RX7 and a Haynes repair manual that list the timing. These could be available in your library. Timing is specified the same as for a reciprocating engine. There is less control over where the ports open and close as compared to valves. As you say, they open and close faster, and I think the overlap period is considerably different.

Thanks a lot John, I'll give those sources a try.  -  Jerry
