snapping to models in sketcher

snapping to models in sketcher

snapping to models in sketcher

(OP)
I am Mech Desktop user learning v5. I can make parts and assembly them, but must be missing something simple- I can't snap to points on models in the sketcher. Why? If I want to place a profile on a model, do I have to use coordinates and translate objects the hard way? The autodetector won't pick any points up.

Any suggestions?

RE: snapping to models in sketcher

You might want to use the project elements option in sketcher where you can project edges onto or intersect solids with your sketch plane. The icon is on the same toolbar as the mirror and transform in sketcher. Then all you have to do is make these elements construction entities and you can snap to them. Another thing you might consider is clicking on the sketch entity holding CTRL and picking the snap entity on the model and hitting the constraints icon.

I hope this helps.

Maybe you could use the contraint "coincindence" to make your sketch snap to any other geometry of your model.
