Someone wants to monitor a hand held personal appliance (no, not one of those) for wear and proper function.  Any suggestions?

RE: extremely small accelerometers needed

Endevco 222 are the smallest I've found.

The PCB 309A ICP accelerometer weighs 1 gram! Not very sensitive though, but smaller generally means less sensitive.

Have a look at http://www.pcb.com

We use a PCB 352C23 for modal analysis of violins, which weighs only 0.2 grams. Again as MikeyP already mentioned, small means generally not very sensitive.
