Steel Bridge Decking

Steel Bridge Decking

Steel Bridge Decking

(OP)
I am looking for advice on how best to address the following problem: Steel bridge deck w/ about 1.4 million button welds holding top grid components together are showing advanced stages of distress, welds are breaking at a rate of approx. 40,000/year and maintenance is becoming overwhelming.  Majority of failures are occurring within the wheelpaths.  Various options have been investigated, with limited success, including replace deck w/ new steel grid, replace w/ concrete deck, in-fill existing w/ concrete.  Mainly increased dead loads or unpredictable service life have been the drawbacks to options investigated to date.  Any comments or advice would certainly be appreciated.

RE: Steel Bridge Decking
