Missing Assembly File Template/Tutorial file
Missing Assembly File Template/Tutorial file
(OP)
I am following the tutorial, and it says to Click "New" and select "Assembly"... but I click on the "New" icon, the box opens up, and there's nothing but a "part" file under the tutorial tab. I looked around in the directories, and in my C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\lang\english\tutorial directory there are three files: assem.asmdot, draw.drwdot, part.prtdot. The only other directory that is used in the options is C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\data\Templates and there are 2 files there: part.prtdot and marker.txt. the content of marker.txt is: "ECHO is off." That's all.
So where should the missing file be? why doesn't assem or draw appear in the new file dialog box and how can I get the missing files?

RE: Missing Assembly File Template/Tutorial file
Make sure that under System Options, File Locations, Show folders for: under Folders, that you have
C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\lang\english\tutorial
If not use the Add button...

In System options, click Default Templates, on the right side you will have Parts dialog text box. Click on the 3 dots to the right ...
Do the same for Assemblies, and Drawings. Remember you must close the System Option dialog box after changing file locations. SolidWorks needs to think I guess.

Sorry, I do not have a clue as to what’s wrong now. Maybe tomorrow someone will know. It is late and I must be going. 6:00 P.M. California time.

RE: Missing Assembly File Template/Tutorial file
in this location there should be default template for you to use, if not let me know or ask a co work for the files that you are missing and place them in this file location.
you should have a assem. draw. and part file. after you replace the files, go to options default templates and link all paths to the tutorial file.
RE: Missing Assembly File Template/Tutorial file
Assembly.asmdot (I copied it from someone)
Drawing.drwdot (I copied it from someone)
Part.prtdot (I copied it from someone)
marker.txt
In C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\lang\english\tutorial I have:
Assem.asmdot
Assem2.asmdot (I copied it from someone)
Draw.drwdot
Draw2.drwdot (I copied it from someone)
Part.drwdot
Part2.drwdot (I copied it from someone)
Under Tools>Options>Default Templates
C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\lang\english\Tutorial\Part.prtdot
that's listed in the Parts box and the only option on the page other than the Always use/Prompt user option.
Under Tools>Options>File Locations
For the setting "Document Templates" the directories are listed:
C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\lang\english\tutorial
C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\lang\english\Tutorial
C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\data\templates
When I click on File>New (Ctrl-N) I get the "New Solidoworks Document" box and there are three tabs listed above the file box: Templates, tutorial, Tutorial.
Under Templates there is only a "Part".
Under tutorial there is "Part" and "Part2"
Under Tutorial there is "Part" and "Part2"
So, somehow my SolidWorks 2003 is not seeing the asmdot and drwdot files. How do I get it to see them?
RE: Missing Assembly File Template/Tutorial file
If you have a "full" copy I would sugest a complete uninstall an re-install
RE: Missing Assembly File Template/Tutorial file
ITS USUAL CAUSE IS USING A LEGIT DISC AND A KEYCODE GENERATOR (I HAVE NEVER COME ACROSS THIS PROBLEM WITH LEGITIMATE INSTALLATIONS OF SOFTWARE) LIKE THE ONE YOU FIND ON KAZAA THE REASON BEING IN THE COMPUTER REGISTRY THE DISK CODE INSTALLATION IS NOT A GOOD MATCH TO THE KEYGEN CODE AND SO WHAT IT SEES IS A DREG WORD MISSING ETC NOT ALLOWING THE INSTALLATION OF CERTAIN BITS AND BOBS
A GOOD BUDDY OF MINE WHO USED A BENT COPY FOR SOME TIME SAID THE ONLY WAY TO REMEDY THIS WAS TO LOAD HIS ORIGINAL
DISK WHICH WAS A FULLY LICENSED COPY BOUGHT AND PAID AND THEN INSTALL AS AN UPGRADE
THE MOST LIKELY WAY TO GET IT TO WORK IS TO DO A COMPLETELY CLEAN INSTALL SO THERE ARE NO REMNANTS IN THE REGISTREY EVEN DELETING THE REGEDIT KEY WONT ALLEVIATE YOUR PROBLEM
A REINSTALL IM AFRAID YOUVE GOT A CORE ELEMENT MISSING THAT ENABLES IT TO SEE ASM.DOT AND DRG.DOT
RE: Missing Assembly File Template/Tutorial file
Do you have a legal copy of SolidWorks 2003 SP 1.0 ?
