Shear Wall on Continuous Foundation
Shear Wall on Continuous Foundation
(OP)
I'm stumped. A shear wall is required to be on a continuous foundation. however in this situation we have a 40X40 structure that we did not intend to place a footing down the middle. The plans call for (4) 4' shear walls inside the structure. if we design 4' footing in the middle of the structure to place these walls are those footings still considered continuous even if they do not attach to themselves of the permiter foundatoin? My understanding has always been that continuous meant that it must be attached to the existing permimiter foundation. Please adivse

But of course you have to ensure a complete lateral loads' path.
