Reading PST folder

Reading PST folder

Reading PST folder

(OP)
People,
I use Outlook to read and write emails and have stored old emails in PST folders.Subsequently I have copied PST folder on to CD for storage. Now I am unable to read  emails from PST folders on this  CD even though I have configured Outlook to look for this PST folder. Any suggestions??

RE: Reading PST folder

What version of Outlook?

I THINK from version 2000 on you can open up Outlook based files in Access.  You should be able to see all the email messages (headers), but I don't know if you'll be able to read the content.

RE: Reading PST folder

Outlook .pst files require FULL READ/WRITE capability in order to be accessed.

Move a copy off the CD to your hardrive and be sure to uncheck the read-only tick box in the properties menu of the .pst file.

RE: Reading PST folder

You could also try to import the PST file contents into Outlook, which should avoid the subject of R/W access.

Thanks for your input. Is there a way to read emails contents from CD directly without having to copy them onto hard drive ?

RE: Reading PST folder

Sad to say but No....

Until the CD access/burning software advances to the point that a CDRW is treated more like a harddrive (read,burn,read...) you are limited with Outlook .pst file access.

As Outlook is extracting the data you want, it is also writes some sort of information back to the .pst file at the same time.
