Proper use of UCS to extract (^C) soldraw geometry

Proper use of UCS to extract (^C) soldraw geometry

Proper use of UCS to extract (^C) soldraw geometry

(OP)
Hi!
This is one that I've just worked around in the past, but would appreciate some help on.

I'll do a soldraw of model in a PaperSpace (Layout) viewport, and generate 2D detail geometry to use in other drawings. When I go to that viewport and "Pick up" the geometry via "copy with basepoint" on the right-button menu, all geometry selects as expected. THEN when I go to the target drawing to drop the geometry (^V), whether into a model-space drawing or a drawing using Layouts (P-space) the UCS orientation is unpredictable. The geometry can come in perfectly oriented relative to the target World UCS, or edge-on or ISO-metrically oriented in some unpredictable direction.

I've worked around this by inserting (^V) as a block, using the Align command and re-orienting it to the current World C.S., but I'd rather discover what I'm missing, and pick up the geometry in the first place in a way that It'll "Drop" correctly when I shift to the target drawing.

Any Suggestions?
Thanks-
C Fee
