transgranular fatigue

(OP)
Does anyone have some good examples of and some definition of a transgranular fatigue?  Also does anyone have any thoughts on what may cause a fracture that would be intergranular with at least 3 grains and yet show on two grains on the outter edge of the fracture surface fatigue striations?  The wire in question is about 30 to 40 mil platinum.  An SEM along with EDX was performed and there appeared to be no foreing elemenst and the area did not appeared to be overheated or heated at all.
