Procedure for safe sour water sampling

Procedure for safe sour water sampling

(OP)

I'M TRYING TO COLLECT SOME INFORMATION AND WANTED TO KNOW IF YOU CAN SHARE YOUR SAFE WORK PROCEDURES TO COLLECT SAMPLES OF SOUR WATER WITH HIGH H2S FROM TANKS OR VESSELS.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR A PROTOCOL FOR COLLECTING, HANDLING AND TRANSPORTATION OF SOUR WATER SAMPLES (OR OTHER LIQUID SAMPLES) THAT HAVE A HIGH CONCENTRATION OF HYDROGEN SULFIDE, THAT COVERS FROM THE COLLECTION OF THE SAMPLE UNTIL IT IS RECEIVED AND WE ARE HANDLING IN THE LABORATORY.

RE: Procedure for safe sour water sampling

I think you would want to use some type of dipping collector for your samples. Use seallable sample collectors. All persons MUST have respirators suitable for H2S, whether they are inside a tank or not.
Go to the OSHA site and read the manual on Confined spaces, repirator training and maybe  hazardous material handling. This should get you going the right direction.
