Acceptable Test Values for new 2KV cable.

Acceptable Test Values for new 2KV cable.

(OP)
When testing 2kv Cable (unshielded) that will be used in a 900vdc system, what are the acceptable results for a megger test at 2kvdc?  The design engineer calls for a PI as well. One run has a PI of less than 1 but has a ten minute read of 600 Megohms.

RE: Acceptable Test Values for new 2KV cable.

EP,

Our company standards would be a 1kV megger test with a minimum IR of 100 Mohms. It is not a normal test for a PI on a cable and I am not sure why this has been specified. A PI minimum of 2 is for equipment.

Cheers, Coingy

RE: Acceptable Test Values for new 2KV cable.

I would assume that the 900Vdc system is ungrounded so a value of 600mohm would be quite acceptable.
