I think you'll find it is carbon.

Yes, I know that, but where does one buy it? in raw form I mean, and it cant just be carbon, because of the frictional properties it must be a grade of carbon/carbon.

RE: Carbon/Carbon Clutch

You might contact a company called Zoltek (spelling?) in St. Louis.  They manufacture carbon fiber and may be able to point you in the right direction.

KVR make 'carbon fibre' brake pads. They may be able to help. I'm aware that carbon pad  on steel disc is not what you want, andf I suspect most pads contain carbon anyway. Good marketing move anyway, by KVP.

You are aware that F1 clutches are multiplate jobbies, like a motorbike, not a single plate design?

RE: Carbon/Carbon Clutch

I suppose that that carbon/carbon means a composite material having carbon fibers laid per some logic (giving a strength to the material-clutch, something like steel wires in a radial tire) and carbon matrix (holding those fibers in place – analogue to a radial tire rubber, having a good friction coefficient and capable of sustaining high temperatures, I suspect).

Therefore my “expert” guess will be that you should search for some carbon/carbon composite manufacturers and bug them.

Hi

Thank You for all the supplies, however, I have had a look at all the options, I am so far unable to locate any carbon/carbon manufacturers, If anyone know who manufactures this, it would be a great help.

RE: Carbon/Carbon Clutch

Try looking at the industrial or mine maintainance supply areas

Companies like Unasco Shamban or Garlock spring to mind

Carbon carbon composites for automotive uses (friction material for brakes and clutches) are produced by HITCO (now owned by SGL), SGL, Carbone Industrie (part of SNECMA), and I believe Ballard (formerly part of the composites business at Textron).  You can obtain more information using the following links:

Thanks TVP!!

This really helped me out :)

Hi

I did some more research, and the material I am looking for is called Carbonite, does anyone know who manufactures this?

Thanks
