allowable deflection(s) of PVC pressure pipe

allowable deflection(s) of PVC pressure pipe

allowable deflection(s) of PVC pressure pipe

(OP)
I need to know how much it is possible to bend say a 16 inch PVC AWWA class 900 (SDR25) pipe.  We are planning to use it for potable water and we need to get around  a curve in the road.  If we can bend it enough we might be able to eliminate the need for a mechanical joint bend in the pipe line.  The Unibell Handbook of PVC Pipe appears to indicate that for a 20 foot section of pipe we can get a 4.2 degree or about .75 feet of deflection.
Can anyone verify this?
Thanks

RE: allowable deflection(s) of PVC pressure pipe

Each pipe manufacturer should have his own joint deflection limits.  You can verify by calling your local PVC pipe suppliers and requesting the brochure for the pipe.

RE: allowable deflection(s) of PVC pressure pipe

I've done a research for the same question you have and found an average deflection for pvc pipes at joints of 5 degrees. This can eliminate the use of bends for angles of this magnitude or less. you will find that you can povide pipe for large radii curve with almost no bends.

RE: allowable deflection(s) of PVC pressure pipe

I like to know is it better to use uPVC pipes in waste water plumbing, or to use "font" pipes.

RE: allowable deflection(s) of PVC pressure pipe

IF you need more joints for the deflection, use shorter pipes.  But please don't try to bend the pipe.  It'll have a rough enough life down there!
