instalation of motor with capacitor motor starter

instalation of motor with capacitor motor starter

(OP)
I HAVE A MOTOR WITH SWITCH NC IN IT(208-230V HP-5 1730RPM 60-HZ PHASE-1 ) HOW CAN I INSTALL THIS MOTOR WITH 3 CAPACITORS STARTER MOTOR ? HAS THE CAPACITOR  TO BE ALWAIS ON OR WHEN THE CONTACT INSIDE THE MOTOR WILL BE OPEN THIS HAS TO PUT THE CAPACITORS OFF?
OBS. THE COMMUTATION OF THE CONTACT INSIDE OF MOTOR HAPPEN WHEN THE MOTOR IS RUNING WITH TOTAL SPEED.

RE: instalation of motor with capacitor motor starter

Please go into more detail as to what you want to do and the nameplate information on the motor!

RE: instalation of motor with capacitor motor starter

Suggestion: The previous posting addresses the need for more details. The capacitor(s) may be added to the motor various ways. There may be one capacitor needed or two or more depending on the concept. One approach eliminates the capacitor by the speed switch. Another approach eliminates the capacitor by the speed switch; however, the motor has another capacitor connected to its windings all the time.

HERE ARE SOME DETAILS I FORGOT TO PUT THE MOTOR PLATENAME IS WEG MODEL W-5-18-184T MOD-184T 887 SF-1.25 SFA-27 COD-H ENCL-DP AND I HAVE THREE CAPACITORS ONE'S DIELEKTROL NO PCD'S CAPACITOR 97F5465 30UF 370VAC 60HZ PROTECTED P923 C10000 AFC B509001P115 THE OTHER TWO ARE 220-250V 161-193 MFD 60HZ BC-161M-250 I NEED TO KNOW IF ANY CAPACITOR CAN BE ENERGIZED ALL THE TIME IF NOT WICH ONE THAT I GET I CAN DO IT

RE: instalation of motor with capacitor motor starter

Well 2525, I believe the "forum police" just removed your answer! The post was called "Confusing starting and running coils" and had an excellent diagram of what you wanted to know! It would have shown you how to connect your start and running capacitors and that your run cap (30uf) is the one that stays "energized" all the time! The two start caps are put in parallel with each other. Here is a link that was on the other post that may help you.

RE: instalation of motor with capacitor motor starter

My mistake.. it was not "Confusing starting and running coils". But I still cannot find the post with the diagrams!

I HAVE THE MOTOR I CITED UP THERE I NEED TO KNOW HOW MANY CAPACITORS I NEED WITH THE VALUE 161-193 MFD MOTOR STARTER OBS- THE MACHINE IS A MIXER DOUGH FROM A BAKERY

RE: instalation of motor with capacitor motor starter

I have never seen a motor using two 161 capacitors! (And I see a lot of that type of motor!) Again... if the motor actually had those two capacitors in it... they would be in parallel.

I suggest you take the motor to a good repair shop and have them take a look at it.

WY I CAN PUT THE CAPACITOR 30U ENERGIZED ALL THE TIME AND THE OTHERS (161-193MFD ) I CAN'T

RE: instalation of motor with capacitor motor starter

The 30 is an oil filled and designed to stay across the line. The 160's were made with cheaper insulators since they are ON just for a second or so.

Others may give a more detailed explanation.

RE: instalation of motor with capacitor motor starter

Motor-start electrolytic capacitors are rated for very short duty.  Leave them energized for very long and they may rupture, but hopefully just fail open.  If left connected to a start/auxiliary winding, the winding will also fry.

AS YOU KNOW I HAVE A MOTOR W/ 2 WINDINGS (START AND RUNING) WHICH ONE HAS HIGHER RESISTENCE(HOMS) HOW CAN I KNOW WHICH ONE'S START WINDING ,CAN YOU SEND ME SOME DESIGN THAT WILL BE HELPFUL

RE: instalation of motor with capacitor motor starter

Typically, the run windings will have a lower resistance since they are a larger wire size. You can confirm which winding is the run winding by looking at the windings inside the motor.

Look at the link I privided a few post's earlier, it shows how your motor should be cinnected.

RE: instalation of motor with capacitor motor starter

2525, however inconvenient and time consuming, you may be left tracking down original manufacturer’s information to fully realize what should be basic descriptions and uncomplicated advice offered by several responders here.
