Solidworks Sketcher SP0 -> Sp1 Help !?

Solidworks Sketcher SP0 -> Sp1 Help !?

Solidworks Sketcher SP0 -> Sp1 Help !?

(OP)
I was using solidworks 2003 SP0 and everything about the sketcher was working fine.  When i upgraded to SP1, the sketcher no longer showed the "cursor on origin" icon when creating a sketch.  This icon was the small pen/pointer symbol with the orange box next to it.

My sketcher also will not "snap" to the end of a line segment or any other part of the sketch.  Instead, i have to add relations and manually constrain the endpoint of the line i am making to the endpoint of the line that already exists in the sketch.  This does not seem correct.  It was "snapping" fine in SP0.  This has been the case for the 3 machines i have upgraded on.  I am missing a setting somewhere?  Does anyone else have this problem?

Thanks,
Rob

RE: Solidworks Sketcher SP0 -> Sp1 Help !?

I don't follow you on your first question about the cursor and the origin.

But on your next one try:

Tools\Sketch settings\ Automatic Solve, Automatic inferencing lines

The more I read your last statement, the more it sounds like you used a grid. If so, make sure it's on and sanp to points is checked.

I don't use a grid nor do I use any auto snaps. So when I drop the point of my line I tell it where I want it to go, so there's no confusion on its position or relationship to other sketch lines.

I do not use a grid and i have all the setting you listed enabled.
In sketcher, if i want to creat two lines with coincident endpoints ... I will click on the line segment and draw the 1st horizontal line and end that line segment.  I start a new line segment and click on the endpoint of my first horizontal line segment(the endpoint highlights red when my cursor is on it).  After i complete this second line, i zoom in to see if the 2nd line segement started where i had intended (on the endpoint of the 1st line).  I find that no matter how hard i try, i can not pick the endpoint of the first line.....it is never automatically coincident.

As another example...when trying to make a line tangent to a circle:
I create the circle....then creat a line coming towards that circle at some angle.  As my cursor comes on top of the circle, the cirlcle highlights and i end the segment where i think it should be.  Now i add a tangent relation.  If i zoom in...i find that the line is tangent but is not coincident with the circle.  I have to add this relation.  This was not the case in SP0.

As for my first question....when you start a sketch and want to sketch a circle centered about the origin (where all three datums meet), a small icon pops up to let you know you are at this point.  This icon is the pointer with the orange box next to it.  I no longer get this icon and have to create the circle....then enter 0,0 in the coordinates menu.  Again, this was not the case in SP0.

It just seems that there is some new setting i am missing or something is wrong with my software.

I appreciate the help.

RE: Solidworks Sketcher SP0 -> Sp1 Help !?

I have tired almost every setting I can think of and I can't turn it off (the orange box).

Maybe you should try resetting your all your options. This may also work for your other problem.

You can do this by going to the registry. If your not comfortable working on the registry find someone that is, like IT admin, etc...

1) Close SW
2) Click Start\Run and type Regedit
3) Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Solidworks
4) RMB the Solidworks directory and click rename.
5) Rename it with your Initials or something.
6) Restart SW, you will have to accept the license agreement and reset your toolbars and tools options. But see if that fixes it.
7) If so, Close SW, then go back to your Registry and delete the Solidworks directory you renamed. (if you push f5 (refresh) you will see a new Solidworks directory)
8) If not and you want to keep your old settings. Then Close SW, (push f5) delete the newly created  Solidworks directory, and rename the other directory (that has your initials) back to Solidworks.

I hope that helps,

Problem has been fixed.  I had the Solidworks 2D emulator turned on in the ADD-ins menu.  Not sure what it does but i disabled it and everything seems to be back to normal.  Thanks for your help
