Crane longitudinal load application for seismic combination

Crane longitudinal load application for seismic combination

(OP)

Dear members,

The question is regarding crane longitudinal load application and combination with seismic check.  When crane is under operation in between aisle columns/ interior columns , how to check for seismic forces with crane capacity?  How to account for % of crane load for seismic check like in other live load case?

RE: Crane longitudinal load application for seismic combination

Usually only the dead load of the crane is considered for seismic applications for cranes.  The lifted load is not rigidly attached and can swing at a slow frequency so it is ignored.  For the seismic load the dead load of the crane should be treated just like the building.  See thread 507-26112 Bridge Crane Seismic loads on Buildings.
