Rocket Wire

Rocket Wire

(OP)
Can somebody give me information on where to look for specifications regarding this aerospace grade rocket wire material ?

RE: Rocket Wire

I am aware of only two suppliers of this type of wire, which is basically music wire (patented 1% carbon steel)with higher levels of manganese and silicon for additional strength.  One is in the U.S. and one is in Germany.  There are no consensus standards that cover the requirements for this type of material.  I would use ASTM A 228 and DIN 10270-1 as a starting point, and then discuss additional requirements with the supplier.  The following is the contact information for Mount Joy Wire in the U.S. (I'll have to look at my records for the German supplier):

Mount Joy Wire Corp.
1000 East Main Street
Mount Joy
Pennsylvania
17552-0505
USA

Phone:     717-653-1461
Toll-free: 800-321-2305
Fax:       717-653-6144

RE: Rocket Wire

TVP or Others,

Does anyone have contact information for the German rocket wire lead?  If so, I would be interested in contact information for this company.  Are there any other companies which manufacture rocket wire other than Mount Joy and the German company?  Thanks much.

MLL

RE: Rocket Wire

I was mistaken earlier-- the European supplier is located in Italy, not Germany.  ITA (Industria Trafilati Acciai) is part of a collection of companies called the Steelgroup.  They purchase wire rod that is at the high end of the spec limits for C & Mn to obtain the elevated tensile properties.  You can find information on product sizes, etc. as well as their contact information using the following link:

http://www.steelgroup.com

Also, Mapes in the US produces rocket wire.  You can obtain more information from their website:
