Hi everybody,

We have met mercaptan in the HDS strippers liquid, so we will find it in the gas too. Could anybody explain me this way? I thought, it turn into SH2 at the HDS reactor.

Thanks a lot.

RE: Mercaptans in the HDS strippers liquid.

Hi, the question-seeker!
I have read an article about mercaptan at Oil & Gas Journal recently. And I cann't remember what that exact issure is!
what I can tell you is from March,2002 to November,2002.

I help this can do it!

RE: Mercaptans in the HDS strippers liquid.

You're right! Organic sulphur compounds, such as mercaptans, do decompose to H2S in HDS reactors. But ...

You may be experiencing "recombination" reactions where H2S and olefinic material recombine in the effluent of a HDS to form RSH (mercaptan). This is quite common in naphtha hydrotreaters operating at high temperatures.
