Consumable suggestion
Consumable suggestion
(OP)
I have a 38 mm cs with 3 mm 6625 clad.
1. Is it possible to do an inconel root and 1st fill weld with ERNiCrMo3 followed by a buffer with some consumable and then weld cs on top of this buffer?
2. If yes, what should the buffer be?
I know from my limited engineering that cs cannot be deposited on top of inconel but my client says that this is possible with a buffer of some consumable type he does not remember!

Thanks a lot for your reply and lead. However for your future refernce I attach the reply from Technical Department of Lincoln Smitweld, who have in their program the covered electrode Kardo. One of the applications for this electrode is on stainless steel a buffer layer in 2 layers and filling up with standard CMn steel filler materials. One of the recommendations is that stress relieving is a must after welding. This method is very dangerous and it is the welder who is responsible for the dilution with the stainless root runs. It is the dilution that MUST be restricted. It must be as low as possible, otherwise we will have a martensitic weld metal.
On the other hand this kind of welding is only economic in really very heavy wall thicknesses.
So far as I know, there are only 2 or 3 companies in the world who has the experience.
The Kardo on Ni base material is NOT possible.
Thanks and regards
