Area Classification
Area Classification
(OP)
Hi,
I am preparing a bid for one of our clients, and they have asked us to determine what the area classification of the process area is by means of a fugitive emissions study.
I am wondering what's involved with such a study, what's the standards I should use, or is this something typically done by an outside engineering firm specializing in such studies. The equipment is to be located in Alberta, Canada.
Thanks in advance to any who respond.
Gareth

RE: Area Classification
Make sure you have the involvement of the Process people when you do area classification. Area classification has nothing do do with electrical other than it defines the electrical equipment and construction when the classification is complete. It is an exercise in estimating the probability of an exposive atmosphere which is dependent on process conditions, operation philosophies, and a host of other non-electrical quantities.

for more info. Type Fugitive in the search window, which will return several standards.
