ACAD 2000 Printer Compatibility Canon 9000

(OP)
I am contemplating purchasing a Canon 9000 wide format (11x17) inkjet printer and wonder if anyone has had any difficulty in printing from ACAD 2000 to this type of printer.

This printer is primarily a photo printer, certainly not specifically made for CAD work, although it does incorporate a black ink cartridge for text.

ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

Autocad lists manufacturers of printers compatible with AutoCAD and if you check this by doing a dummy printer configuration using the "add plotter wizard", you'll notice that Canon is not listed in the manufacturers compatible with AutoCAD 2000. Check also if the Canon 9000 will fall under any classification specified by AutoCAD:

Abobe
Autocad DXB File
Autocad ePlot (DWF)
Calcomp
Hewlett-Packard
OCE
Raster File Formats
Xerox Enginering Systems

Cod,

I am the sole electrical controls engineer with a small OEM.  We have been using a Cannon 9000 for AutoCAD Rev 14 and 2002 for the past year with good success.  Rev 14 handles the changing of paper sizes less than ideal, but 2002 appears to iron that bug out.

CntrlEngr: Thanks for your reply. I think that answers my question and I will probably go ahead and give the S9000 a try.

After long searches on how to contact them, I finally got an answer from Canon. Here is a part of what they said, verbatim;

Unfortunately, the Canon S9000 Photo printer will not
support Autocad 2000. Also, the Canon S9000 Photo printer does not support the HPGL language that plotters use.

I was almost certain that Autocad, of any version, used the Windows system and driver for printing for the usual gamut of printers, but I wasn't sure. Your post convinces me that that is the case, in spite of the above.

However, I would appreciate any further thoughts you might have, for or against, if you would add another post to the tread. After leaving the same message on two other forums (including Adesk's), yours was the only practical reply I got.

Again, thanks

Wide format printers, I bought the HP color inkjet CP1700, it will handle 13 x 19 and works super. Has support from HP and Acad, no hassel at all, whats the price difference for the piece of mind.
