Dear frinds,

Could you guys please clarify why we do earth rod resistance measurement instead of earth impedance measurement.

Thanks,

RE: Dear frinds, Could you guys plea

It depends.
If you measure with a DC test set the result is resistance.
If you measure with an AC test set the result is impedance.
AC test sets are common.

RE: Dear frinds, Could you guys plea

By its characteristics and the geometry, the earth itself is not having any reactive components. Hence the earth is considered to be a pure resistance for all the practical purposes.

Earth resistance is essentially an impedance which offers a zero (or negligible) value of inductive reactance for the flow of AC current.
