web buckling stiffeners on crane - runway beam

web buckling stiffeners on crane - runway beam

(OP)
Hi,

I'm in the UK and I'm looking for any example calculations to design web stiffeners for a crane beam.

The crane beam is already in place and the client is looking to install a larger crane. The superstructure is adequate but the crane beam is failing on web buckling under concentrated wheel loads only, all other aspects are passing.

We have offered several solutions including installing a new beam and the solution they have chosen is to install the crane and limit it's use to half of the building and strengthen the web with stiffeners. When I've come to design the stiffeners I can't find any examples of these being designed (although they are mentioned in BS 2573-1).

thanks in advanced
