We have a contractor that is planning to use API 5CT N80 pipe in an application that will require fillet welding some permanent plates to it. Are there any special procedures required? The 2 types of pipe are either Normalized and tempered or Quenched and tempered.

Yes, request a WPS/PQR for review. Look at preheat, interpass temperature, filler metal selection. Also, make aure you have surface NDT performed, wet fluorescent MT after fillet welding.

When I was on the API 5 before 2000, the 5 CT intended to prohibit welding on casing and tubing.
