Which steel manual to buy?

Which steel manual to buy?

Which steel manual to buy?

(OP)
I see the 15th edition came out, is there any reason not to go and buy it? I heard there may be alot of errata? I am not a structural engineer, I work for a contractor and use the manual once in a while.

Sorry if this question has been asked a lot but I did a search and did not find a recent thread.

RE: Which steel manual to buy?

If you're dealing with contractual issues, the 15th edition probably isn't incorporated into many building codes, etc yet. Another point in favor of getting the 13th or 14th editions (which aren't significantly different in most cases).

The 15th will be better future proofing if you're looking for a general reference on steel design over the next 20 years. AISC errata usually aren't too onerous (although I don't know specifically about the 15th ed).

RE: Which steel manual to buy?

Good point. I believe 9th was the last ASD edition.

RE: Which steel manual to buy?

Last time I looked, a copy of the 9th in decent condition cost about the same as the 14th in like new condition.

I see 15th edition is only $288 (new) on amazon now.. I think it was quite a bit more than that last time I checked. I figure that will be the best investment going ahead especially looking long term like Lomarandil said.

RE: Which steel manual to buy?

Or only $200 from the source if you (or someone you know) is an AISC member:

(It's possible you don't know a member, but it's generally good to be cautious about Amazon for technical resources. Sometimes the markup is ridiculous).
