UK Building Control Records

(OP)
Hi I have a query for practiceing UK engineers. How often do you carry out a search of building control records when you are altering a domestic building (loft conversion or knock out the back wall kind of a thing).

Most of the design we do is based on a site inspection and we would only search records if something in the design or on site seemed like it justified it. I would say most of the time we don't do a record search and I'm just trying to see if we are out of line with practice by other firms.
