Combined Lateral and Withdrawal Loading of Timber Screw

Combined Lateral and Withdrawal Loading of Timber Screw

Combined Lateral and Withdrawal Loading of Timber Screw

(OP)
I am connecting a diagonal brace to a beam using a timber screw. The brace may be at any angle to the beam. In the attached I have used C=α. 2015 NDS, 12.4.1, Figure 12F has α=any angle with the screw perpendicular to the main member. But if I rotate the screw, for example 30°, then the C=B-A.

As A becomes B, the force puts the timber screw in complete lateral loading with no pullout. Whereas, as C approaches B, the screw is loaded as described in the 2015 NDS, Eqn. 12.4-1

Does this seem an appropriate method to determine the allowable Z’ (lateral and pullout) for the screw?
