Does anyone know what RVFL stands for in Generator Nameplate "EXC. FLD AMPS-RVFL".

"Throughout space there is energy. Is this energy static or kinetic! If static our hopes are in vain; if kinetic ù and this we know it is, for certain ù then it is a mere question of time when men will succeed in attaching their machinery to the very wheelwork of nature". û Nikola Tesla

RE: Generator Nameplate

I have an old Ideal tech guide that says it means "at Rated Voltage Full Load".

Who's generator is it, may help you get a more definitive answer.

Thank you! It is an old GE unit.

RE: Generator Nameplate

In context I think Mike L's explanation makes perfect sense because the field current required to raise nominal voltage is dependent on the load connected to the main terminals. LPS Mike.

RE: Generator Nameplate

Thank you Scotty!

I looked thru some of the old GE info I have, didn't find anything but most of the stuff I have is for units smaller than 1MW.

Just about every generator nameplate I run across when it lists field volts and field amps it is at nominal voltage with generator at full kVA output.

Hope that helps, MikeL.

RE: Generator Nameplate

I haven't seen RVFL, but it makes a lot of sense.
If a replacement exciter and/or voltage regulator can't supply the rated current and voltage then the alternator will not be able to produce full rated output.

RE: Generator Nameplate

What is the Generator S/N? I just asked Generator Engr and said that it is Exciter Field Amps Volts Full Load

going to double check on the R because typical nomenclature is
IFFL (amps field full load) or VFFL (volts field full load)
R is usually resistance
