Sliding snow

Sliding snow

Sliding snow

(OP)
Hi,

I have couple of questions regarding sliding snow

1)Is insulated metal deck considered as a slippery roof?

2)I have a situation where I have a high roof and a low roof. The slope of the roof is around 4 degree monslope. There is a parapet around the high roof. As there is an obstruction (parapet) should I still consider snow sliding from the high roof to low roof?

RE: Sliding snow

BAGW:
Are you draining that parapet/roof area in some way? Does that lead to ice build-up on the lower roof, or water run-off and concentration, and an icing problem around the bldg.? Can the parapet cantilever take the sliding/lateral snow loading? Is it flashed properly do that the wall below does not become the drainage path?

RE: Sliding snow

1. Since it is insulated, it is a warm roof and I would answer yes if there are no snow or ice dams present.

2. Probably not, depending on the height of the parapet, as it constitutes a dam.

Thanks guys

There are drain pipes every often on the roof.

RE: Sliding snow

How about the chance of drifting on the low roof, as well as drifts on the high roof near the parapet?

RE: Sliding snow

(OP)
Sure. Drift needs to be considered.
