Storage Area Point Load

Storage Area Point Load

Storage Area Point Load

(OP)
I am designing an elevated area for fixed storage racks. They want to use bar grating for the floor. I am adding additional structure under the rack point loads. Do I need to design the open areas for any point loads or simply the 125 psf light storage loads?

Thanks

RE: Storage Area Point Load

Depending on the level of obstruction the fixed racks provide, I could talk myself into being fine with the uniform load, or uniform load plus personnel-level point loads.

The name is a long story -- just call me Lo.

It is for tire racks which will be around the perimeter of a relatively small room or walkway. Can't see them wanting to obstruct anything in the open areas as they need to be able to get to these tires very quickly.
It is a high volume tire store.

RE: Storage Area Point Load

We've generally just designed for post loads under the racks and storage elsewhere. I don't believe ASCE stipulates any concentrated loads for storage areas so you should be clear there. Would just consider any equipment they use to load/unload the racks, if any.

Then we've just made sure to play around with the live load distribution/skip loading on any continuous multi-span members to get maximum response.

Thanks for the info.
The only equipment being used are humans and a conveyor to get the tire up there - but that is supported independently.
