min distance from the edge of a pedestal to the edge of the base plate.
min distance from the edge of a pedestal to the edge of the base plate.

Hello all,
My issue is: I have several square base plates bigger than the concrete pedestals. the base plates are for columns and these will be over the concrete pedestal (typical column with pedestal arrangement), so I have to cut the base plates to be smaller than the concrete pedestal.
My question , there are a min distance from the edge of the pedestal to the edge of the base plate?. this is to minimize the work of cutting and the waste of material in this activity, also I want to keep enough space to do the correct grouting.
thanks in advance.

When you start thinking you are going to cut away part of the bearing area of a column base plate, what does that do to the bearing stress and any moment cap’y. for the column? What does that do to your anchor bolt layout? Will the base pl. still check? The most practical solution might be replacing the piers. Where they shown correctly on the plans, as to location, size and A.B. layout, but then built to the wrong size? Where did the error come into play? That might indicate the party who contributes most to the fix costs.

The error was by the supplier of the steel structure, because the base plates had to be in a smaller size as per design drawings.
Reading yours answers and doing a little research I could conclude if I cut the base plates to a bigger size than of design size, this will work.
So my plan is to cut the base plate 25 mm from the edge of the concrete pedestals. With this I have enough space to grout and the bases still are having a bigger size than the design drawings.
What do you think about this idea?
