Slab on Grade PCA Charts - Control Joints

Slab on Grade PCA Charts - Control Joints

Slab on Grade PCA Charts - Control Joints

(OP)
Im using the "Designing Floor Slabs on Grade" by Ringo and Anderson for forklifts on rack loading.

On page 29, 3.2.3 "stress increases for loads at edges or joints" indicates an addtional factor of safety is added to account for control joints, and that stresses can increase by as much as 50 to 70%.

Further down in the paragraph, it indicates an example problem could be solved with a FS =2.6 which would assume an increase in actual bending stress of 30%.

Does anyone have guidance on this issue? Is there a separate approach you take in your design?

RE: Slab on Grade PCA Charts - Control Joints

After the slab has 'shrunk' a bit, can you use a 'hard' joint filler that provides support for the slab edge?
