I'd like to find the minimum weight of a beam pinned at both ends under compression.
I know that the cross section of the beam varies along the beam, but what is the equation for the beam shape?

Roark's formulas for stress and strain - 7th edition - Table 15.1 - case 6

RE: Buckling

isn't a beam, pinned at both ends under compression, a column ?

or a beam-column, if you account for weight.

another day in paradise, or is paradise one day closer ?

RE: Buckling

Wait, there is a LOT more to designing such a member than finding an elastic buckling load.

What is the material?
