Composite Steel-Concrete Structure (CSA S16-14) Clause Help

Composite Steel-Concrete Structure (CSA S16-14) Clause Help

(OP)
Hello,

I am trying to determine the tributary width of a composite steel concrete section and would like some clarification on the clause used to do this from CSA S16-14.

The clause is 17.4.2 :

"Slabs or cover slabs extending on one side only of the supporting section or joist ..."

does this mean that the steel section needs to be directly under the concrete slab near the end of the slab? What if I am using three steel beams to support a slab, if I put one beam in the centre and the next two beams near the centre beam such that the slab cantilevers at the edges, then would the above clause apply?

Can some one clarify what on one side only means?

Thank you.
