Force or displacement control

Force or displacement control

Force or displacement control

(OP)
Hello,

I'm trying to simulate the assembly of a component into another (the two components shown in the figure below). The components are both cylindrical but it is only represented 1/4 due to simmetry conditions (axyssimetry is not possible due to the ring with snaps, cyclic simmetry could also be used). The problem has contact (I'm using surface-to-surface and tangential penalty behaviour), geometric non-linearity and plasticity.

The third component that appears below is irrelevant for this analysis.

For the simulation I'm constraining the top surface of the top component from moving vertically but I'm having difficulties on imposing the movement to the ring with snaps.

Firstly, i tried to impose displacement in the vertical direction to the bottom face of the ring. However, this changes the real mechanical behaviour of the system, since it restrains the inwards bending of the ring with the bottom face remaining horizontal throughout the entire movement.

Secondly, i tried to impose pressure in the bottom face. However I'm having great trouble in finding a converged solution and i don't know how can I control the final displacement when imposing force.

Thanks in advance for the help and hope you understood my problem.

Regards

RE: Force or displacement control

You could place a reference node near that surface and add a distributed coupling between. Then you could apply the one enforced displacement at the node. Now the surface could still deform and rotate while being pushed.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will try that, hope it works :)
