Fuse-switch operation

Fuse-switch operation

Fuse-switch operation

(OP)
I wonder if a 24 kV fuse-switch can be used to get external "trip/open" signal from a digital relay? or a "remote close" command? The application will be inverter supplied transformer, where the fault current won't exceed rated current

I haven't seen that before as I always deal with CBs for MV applications.

RE: Fuse-switch operation

HV fuses normal have striker pin operated limit switch to indicate the fuse is blown. The limit switch contact shall be wired in the up/downstream breaker trip circuit for tripping the supply.

This is the standard arrangement.

Great. but is can't get a reverse direction command? i.e. a trip signal from a relay to operate the fuse?

RE: Fuse-switch operation

I think you can use to open the fuse-switch on fault under the conditions that
1) The switch is load break type and
2) The fault current is not more than the switch rating
3) The fault currents are always low power factor type (say 0.2) and the switch is capable of opening such low power factor currents with a magnitude equal to the expected fault current from the inverter. Breaking reactive currents is more difficult.

Would the LBS have any capabilty to break fault current?

RE: Fuse-switch operation

There are motor operated switches that can be opened and closed remotely. These are the only type that can be operated that way. Since you were very vague with your question, there is no way to provide a more specific answer.
