Passive earth pressure in retaining wall design
Passive earth pressure in retaining wall design
(OP)
I am reviewing some calculations for a cantilever landscape retaining wall. I would typically neglect the passive earth pressure in the overturning analysis but in this case the calculations show the entire active pressure being balanced by the passive soil pressure.
Can the passive pressure for the soils(loose gravel) in front of the stem typically be relied upon to participate in a rotational analysis? In this particular case I am getting about 0.35 inches of wall displacement needed in order to mobilize passive earth pressure for a 5 foot tall wall.
TIA
