Nozzle Neck & Pressure Vessel Shell thickness requirement
Nozzle Neck & Pressure Vessel Shell thickness requirement
(OP)
I would like to know that for a horizontal pressure vessel having shell thickness of 14mm only.
1. Whats will be the maximum allow nozzle neck thickness, Is there any maximum limit in ASME Sec VIII Div 1.?
2. Is it allow to use nozzle with thickness of 20 mm?
In actual case i want to design boot for pressure vessel, In PVElite software there is no direct tool for design boot. We need to design nozzle as boot with dished head. My above thickness concern actually for this boot shell.

RE: Nozzle Neck & Pressure Vessel Shell thickness requirement
The only place I have seem limits imposed is in customer specs for vessels subject to cyclic service requiring a fatigue analysis. In this case, it can become a problem having a nozzle too much thicker than the shell. That said, even in that case, the customer spec limited the nozzle neck to 2x the shell thickness.
A 20mm nozzle in a 14mm shell would be no problem.
Cheers,

Thickness of the various parts will affect the temperature ratings of the vessel without impact testing.
