I am a structural guy and one of my hobbies is woodworking. I have a 4'x8' CNC router and I am contemplating upgrading from stepper motors to a new controller with a closed loop servo system to improve the accuracy. The new controller also has some nice features I like. It is a rack and pinion drive system. I do not know how to correctly size new servo's for my application and machine parameters. The technician offered some ideas, but admitted he could not do the mechanical calculations. Can anyone point me to a reasonable reference that would help? I have found many different references for low end DIY systems, but I already have that.

That should work for the servos. There was an interesting thesis online as well to see if the frame is stiff enough as well. I am not sure I want to dig that deep into it yet.
