Modificate my gearbox's motor to have a brake
Modificate my gearbox's motor to have a brake
(OP)
Hello there!
My name is Gustavo and I'm from Brazil. Currently working on a steelmill plant. Now I'm with a project where I'm using a gearbox. The problem is that I realized that the motor of the gearbox needs to be a motor with brake. I don't want to spend a lot of money buying gearbox with brake motor, so I'm thinking on modificating my motor to have a brake.
Is it possible? Is it the most recommended way to do that? What do you think about my decision?
Best regards.
Gustavo

The motor is removed from the gear box. The brake unit is mounted to the gear box. The motor is then mounted to the brake.
There is not much you can do without some work and expense.
Or, have a labourer brake the motor manually with a piece of wood wedged into a suitable place in the drive train.
Not kidding. I saw a 300 HP chipper that was regularly stopped by two men pushing against a plank that was wedged against one of the belt sheaves.
The cost of a plank in a sawmill is negligible.
How cheap do you want to go.
