Aluminium 6060/ 3,3206/ Al Mg Si 0,5 - thick plate
Aluminium 6060/ 3,3206/ Al Mg Si 0,5 - thick plate
(OP)
Hi there,
We have some cooling shells we use with ethanol as a coolant.
Because its thermal conductivity and resistance to corrosion we have selected the Alu 6060 (Aluminium 6060/ 3,3206/ Al Mg Si 0,5)
The problem we are having is finding thick plates (60mm - 2.4inches)
We are based in Germany but we could get it from any place
Does anybody know where to get it?
thanks
regards,

Typically I'd say you would have to arrange a special production [mill] 'run' of the 6060-( ) plate with a reputable raw-aluminum producer.
However, I searched 6060 in several of my normal resources and found VERY FEW specifications... all non-US. ALSO, ALL of the specifications [that quickly I found] were for extruded profiles... NO plate what-so-ever.
Now, IF You were specifying 6061... how many tons do You need...?

I just need like 1-2 m2 (10-20 square feet) of the plates with 60mm
6060 was chosen because its good thermal conductivity and alcohol corrosion resistance, would the 6061 be good?
cheers,

Your call. Suggestion...
A clue from the past... when many factors collide, and present an analytical or logistical quandary... in this case a material selection VS a fluid environment VS availability... especially for a unique requirement that may be critical{?]... then suggest You get sample materials and do realistic lab TESTING.
CAUTION. IF fluid is flowing and/or subjected to potential air intrusion, or other contaminates... then introduce those elements for a realistic test.
NOTE. Aluminum extruded bars/shapes, under specific circumstances [by a reputable process/vendor], can be friction stir welded together to essentially make a plate. RE AWS D17.3. Aerospace companies are creating monolithic sheet/plate parts this way.

The closest composition you're going to find in simple plate form is likely 6063- I would investigate sourcing 6063 instead, if it meets your requirements.

thanks to everybody

60mm is not a standard plate thickness available off the shelf.
