Piping Alignment to Pump
Piping Alignment to Pump
(OP)
Dear All,
I just want to know if it is needed to perform the alignment checking if the pipe connected to the pump suction has a "rubber bellow"? Based on my initial result, the displacement of the flange connected to the pump nozzle at load case WNC+H is reaching 168 mm. It exceeded the allowable displacement set by API RP 686 of 1.5 mm.
Thank you and hope for your reply.

RE: Piping Alignment to Pump
Any attachment to the pump imposes some forces.
I don't fully understand what you mean by 168mm - Do you mean the flange moves that much?? Something very wrong there.
Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.
RE: Piping Alignment to Pump
Are you saying one side of the bellows (attached to the pump) does not move whilst the other side of the bellow (away from the pump) moves laterally by 168mm or axially? If so the design is not acceptable unless the rubber bellows is around 10D long. Re-design warranted I think here.
