Moment connections

I would like assistance with a building I am designing. I am using SMF as the lateral force resisting system in the building, and would like to know if the connections between the non-seismic beams to column connection can be moment connections or do am I required to use shear connections. If I cannot use moment connections any reasons you can share would be valuable. Thank you for your assistance in advance.

RE: Moment connections

You can use a moment connection anywhere you want, but it will try to attract load based on its stiffness, so it should be considered with lateral loads. If its a 'limber' frame, it wont attract much load compared to your defined SMF, but it will take something.

RE: Moment connections

Didn't you already receive adequate responses in your other thread?

I believe KootK indicated you can have moment connections however you will need to evaluate the stiffness of the moment frames you are creating via these moment connections and compare it to your main LFRS moment frames.
