Using reference sketch curves to extrude

Using reference sketch curves to extrude

Using reference sketch curves to extrude

(OP)
Hi,
Sometimes I have an issue with a reference curve in a sketch.

For example:
I have part someone else designed. There is a sketch used for extrude 1.
For extruded one, I do not want to select the reference curve. Great everything works fine.

At a later time, I need to modify this design. I need to use the reference curve for example in a 2nd extrude. I do not want to effect extrude number 1

Is there a good workflow? I want to keep the curve reference for extrude 1 but I want to use reference curve later.
The best workaround I have found is to remake the curve with associative lines, using the end points of the reference line? Is there a filter some were to make reference curves selectable.

I am using NX8.5 sad

RE: Using reference sketch curves to extrude

A reference curve is a reference curve... smile
The purpose of a reference curve is that it should not be used as a generator in a subsequent feature.

Either you make it "non-reference" in the sketch and use a different selection method ( other than "feature curves"or "infer curves") and you can then use any curve of that sketch at any stage in time, But you have to stay away from the "Feature curves"/"infer curves" selection methods.
Or,
You copy the sketch and swap the reference /regular curves and use this second sketch for feature x
Or
You draw lines ontop of the sketch and use these för feature x.

I would have used method 1 here.

RE: Using reference sketch curves to extrude

Hi Tomas,
Thanks for the relpy. I'm seeing the same thing. I was hoping that there was another way that I did not know about.

For the most part, I do not use reference curves in my sketch because of this issue.
I stick with keeping all the curves non-ref. and use method 1.
When I do an extruded I usual use selection intent connected curves with stop at insert section. I find that the most stable.

It would be handy to have a filter switch to turn on/off section of reference curves, but I guess that does not exist.

FYI project curve, instance, and offset curves, do not work when trying to select sketch reference curves.

RE: Using reference sketch curves to extrude

The ability to display/hide reference curves for inactive sketch is available from NX11 onwards.
