Out of memory error

Out of memory error

Out of memory error

(OP)
I am sending autocad 2000 dwg files to a client who works on arch. desktop 3.3 and he gets an "out of memoty" error when opening some of the files. he has a good computer 528 mb ram, 26 GB free HD space. I send the same files to other friends on acad and they open fine, my clients tech. says its a compatibility issue w/autodesk 3.3 and acad 2002? My OS is windows 2000, not sure about his.
Thanks

RE: Out of memory error

How big a file is it?  It may not be his physical ram, but the virtual ram that is the problem.  He may need to clean the Temp file on his computer.
I cannot comment on the compatibility issue between ACAD and Architectual Desktop, but I work with Mechanical Desktop and ACAD 2k and 2002.  If I try to open something that is unfamiliar between the two, it will still open up, but I will get a pop-up that asks whether I want to "Show Proxy-graphics", and I will still be able to open it.

RE: Out of memory error

Have you tried sending him AutoCAD R14 files?  Use the "SAVEASR14" command.

RE: Out of memory error

At first we thought it was a file size issue (some files where 800kb) but then it happened with small files, I did try saving as acad 14, I heard maybe if I save as 12 it might work, I also have MDT 4.0 available to me, maybe if I save as 4.0 ? I am going tu try Monday

RE: Out of memory error

You can also try to export the drawing to dxf or iges and see if they can be imported without losing information.

RE: Out of memory error

Just as a test, try doing an audit and then wblocking it out (unless you use pspace). Sounds like there is some object that the other app is having a problem with and it just keeps processing till all of their memory is used up. We have had similar problems from time to time and it usually came down to some simple block in the drawing. Once we eliminated or redefined the block, it worked with no problems. Good luck.

RE: Out of memory error

I would agree with BorgUnit ... except the audit & wblock should be done BY THE CLIENT ... Since the problem occurs there ... maybe the AUDIT & WBLOCK from ADT 3.3 will filter and fix any compatiablity issues it may have with your AutoCAD 2000i files.

Later guy.

Madrynense, please let us know how you resolved this issue so we can use it for future reference.

I ended up using audit and wblock to make it work. I noticed that if I started a drawing from scratch I had no problems between 2002 and 3.3, in my case the problem was generated from design files sent to me from the owner which I did a "save as" to (the client was rushing me).
Thanks
