FEM Analysis based on Kinematic data of Model

FEM Analysis based on Kinematic data of Model

FEM Analysis based on Kinematic data of Model

(OP)
Hello Dear All

I am studying on FEM analysis for Biomedical Model (Knee Joint). I have kinematic data (translation (X,Y,Z) and rotation (Rx, Ry, Rz)) of Femur with respect to Tibia. This picture show us general movement of knee-joint
.

I mean, Tibia is fixed, Femur is moving based on kinematic data during 10 minute with certain time intervals . That is, I have data of kinematic ((X,Y,Z,Rx,Ry,Rz of Femur) at every time intervals. This question is that how can import the kinematic data into the Abaqus for FEM. I know Tabular in Amplitudes part of Abaqus. But I know that we can input just two data. one of them is time/Frqeuency, other one is Amplitude. Is it possible input all data of X,Y,Z,RX,RY,RZ into Abaqus at each time interval in order to move to femur. IF it is not possible just using Abaqus, it possible use the data work extra software (MATLAB etc.) with Abaqus or is there any subroutine in order to can define movement of Femur?

Thanks

You just need to create boundary conditions (*Boundary) referencing amplitude (*Amplitude) time histories and prescribe the BCs to the rigid body reference node associated with the femur.

Given the terminology you are using, I think you need expert supervision.

To be more clear - each DOF can have it's own boundary condition with a specific amplitude.

First of all thank you. Yes I am apprentice about ABAQUS.

You mean, I should do like in picture shown below. Like in the picture for 6DOF of femur, should i define BC in six step in order to can select boundary condition with a specific amplitude? or Can I define all BC with each specific amplitude of BC (U1, U2, U3, UR1, UR2, UR3) in a step. In addition, with respect to in which coordinate system Femur is moving/rotating and can I create specific coordinate system in order to movement of femur?

Thanks

RE: FEM Analysis based on Kinematic data of Model

It's your decision if you use one step or multiple steps. It depends if you want that all the movements happens at the same time or not. But when you work with multiple steps, be aware of the effect when using amplitudes relative to the step time or to the total time.

You can use the global or a local CSYS. But one node can only act in one CSYS. So when you define the BC relative to a local or global CSYS for a node, then another BC on that node has to use the same CSYS.
For another node you are free to do it different again.
